SOLCA.
A 20 km from Radauti lies the city of Solca at an altitude of 520 m in
the Solca depression. It was documentary certified in 1418.
This little town is famous for its cold, clean air
and the excellent quality of the water - but Solca is possibly even
better known for its beer!
In the XVIIth centuries, monks at Solca monastery
founded a little brewery, which has developed into a modern factory.
The founder of the Monastery was Stefan II Tomsa. His church is 36m
high and a very impressive building. The Austrians closed the monastery
in 1785 and its iconostasis was moved to Dragomirna.
In the village there is a traditional late 18th
century Romanian house built of oak, which has been turned, into a
museum. It has been decorated inside to imitate the period.
