PĂTRĂUŢI CHURCH.  The church was built for Stephen the Great in 1487. It is dedicated to The Ascent of the Cross. It is the oldest of Stephen's surviving churches to have kept its original shape.
It was initially built as a
nunnery and was modeled on the HolyTrinity Church in Siret with bare stone walls. It was later painted on the outside, some of the frescoes are in reasonably good condition and are currently being restored. The clearest scenes are on the west end, which shows the unusual subject of Constantine the Great's cavalcade. The only other known example of this composition is at Arbore. There are fine paintings inside the church as well, and the founder's portrait in the votive scene is remarkably good.
